Connor Osier has been nothing but hot this year. He threw a complete no-hitter against Canandaigua on May 1st, as well as a no-hitter through 5.2 frames against Irondequoit on May 8th. Monday’s game at Sutherland was no different for the junior right-hander. He threw for 5.1 innings, allowing a lone hit, and fanning 10 hitters. All five runs that were scored against Osier were unearned.
Leading the way for the Athena Trojans offense was Riley Catena who had three hits and a pair of RBI’s. Athena had been down 7-4 entering the final frame. With one out down, the Trojans needed to spark a three run inning with just two outs. A spark was lit at the perfect time as Teresi singled. Directly after, Madrid, Saucke, and Allen had all walked, bringing Teresi in to score. Catena packed on his second RBI of the game with a liner to right. Connor Osier came to the dish with bases juiced. He grounded into a fielder’s choice which scored Saucke. With the game now tied at seven, and two outs for Sutherland, Nate Hall came up to the plate. Hall singled into right, in clutch fashion, scoring Derrick Allen.
Sutherland trailed 8-7 coming into the final half of the inning. Jaden Madrid had come in for Osier the previous inning. He fanned Armanini, giving the Trojans their first out. Vorrasi singled, and Holvey reached on error for the Knights. Brand grounds out to the pitcher, advancing each of his runners. With two outs and the winning run in scoring position, the Knights were down to their last breath. Madrid didn’t sweat it though, as he recorded his final strikeout of the game and got out of the last-minute threat.
