On Tuesday afternoon the Saints travelled down to HF-L for their second game in their four-game week. Coming off a huge offensive win against Brighton the night prior, they looked to keep the bats alive.
Mitch Martini took the hill for the Cougars, who allowed three hits, striking out two, and a lone Saints run.
The Saints struggled to score runners, consistently leaving runners on base. Farnham reached first after a strong at bat leading to a base-on-balls, Morsch reached first on error after laying a well-placed bunt down. Reina also sacrificed, successfully moving the two runners over, despite getting out. Josh Campbell recorded the lone RBI for the Saints on a groundout to second, Farnham scores. Reina, Sardou, Meister, Putney, Shortino all recorded hits.
Evan Putney led a shutout through five innings, confident with his strong defense behind him. The junior southpaw faced 27 batters on the day, throwing just 69 pitches, walking just two, and striking out three.
The HF-L Cougars offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Weber and Meachem both singled on line drives into left. Brown advanced both runners after a groundout to the catcher. Connor Finn delivered the game-winning hit, with a hard ground ball into centerfield, scoring the pair of runners. Meachum and Finn each recorded multiple hits.
