McVean wins 600th as Men’s Basketball downs Wells, 91-64
AURORA, N.Y. – RIT head coach Bob McVean won his 600th game in the Tigers 91-64 win at Wells, Tuesday. His 600 wins is the most in program history and third among active Division III coaches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior guard Matt Caggiano capped off an 11-0 RIT run with his three-pointer with 12:10 remaining in the first half to give the Tigers a 21-10 lead.
- Wells’ Billy McRae cut the RIT lead to 27-24 on his dunk.
- Senior forward Kenny Wilburn gave RIT a 42-30 lead on his bucket with 1:41 to play and first-year guard Luke Grantohit a three-pointer with four seconds to play in the half to give RIT a 47-34 halftime lead.
- Junior guard Brock Bowen scored off an assist from Wilburn early in the second half to extend the RIT lead to 49-35.
- Evan Hauser hit a jump shot with 17:30 remaining to cut the RIT lead to 49-40.
- The Tigers went on a 12-2 run, extending its lead to 61-42 on a bucket from Wilburn with 14:00 to play.
- Bowen drained a three-pointer off an offensive rebound from first-year guard Brody Brown to give the Tigers a 91-62 lead.
GAME NOTES
- Wilburn scored a career-high 32 points on 15-of-19 shooting
- Caggiano and Bowen each scored 15, while junior Chase Dickens scored 13
- RIT shot 37-of-72 (51.4%) from the floor, including 10-of-27 from beyond the arc
