Benetti Leads Nazareth to Road Win at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, NY – Sophomore Molly Benettiscored a game-high 17 points for the hot shooting Nazareth University Women’s Basketball team as the Golden Flyers ran away with a 90-47 win Saturday afternoon at the Student Activities Center.

After a slow start as Nazareth (3-1) fell behind 5-0 early, Benetti scored the next six points to spark the Golden Flyers. The sophomore finished the first period with eight points and Nazareth led 21-14 with a 12-2 rebounding edge and an 8-0 advantage in second chance points.

Sophomore Kiara Anglin ignited a second quarter run as the Golden Flyers took a 39-26 lead into the halftime break. Anglin And Benetti had 10 points each in the first half.

Nazareth came out of the break with the first eight points of the third quarter to take a commanding lead held a lead of more than 20 points for a majority of the period and led 61-37 after three quarters.

The hot-shooting Golden Flyers continued to pour in the points in the fourth with a season-high 29 points in the quarter as Nazareth finished the game hitting 54.2 percent of its shorts from the floor and connected on 5-of-10 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes.

Benetti led all scorers with 17 points while Anglin and graduate student Olivia Dobrovosky each scored 14 points. Anglin finished with an impressive line of 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Sophomore Katie MacLachlan added 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists while freshman Madelyn Kelly came off the bench for 11 points and six rebounds. Fellow freshman Alyssa Dobson added nine points on three 3-pointers.

Nazareth will play its first two Empire games next weekend at Russell Sage (Dec. 1) and at Hartwick (Dec. 2).
