Baseball tops Utica, No. 2 Salve Regina to close out RussMatt Invitational
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The RIT baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with wins over Utica and No. 2 Salve Regina.
RIT 10-1 UTICA
- With the game tied 1-1 entering the sixth inning, the Tigers broke things open by scoring eight runs in the top of the sixth.
- The scoring started with John Bagleybeing hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing Caelen Kim to advance from third to home.
- Kim rounded out the scoring with a run off of a single by Charlie Slaymaker.
- In the seventh, Jackson Rusieckidoubled into center field to bring in Randy Dodig to complete the 10-1 win.
RIT 9-6 No. 2 Salve Regina
- RIT took down the No. 2-ranked Seahawks in the final game for the Tigers.
- In the bottom of the third, Roberto Reade hit a two-run blast over the outfield fence to give RIT a 4-0 lead.
- With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Reade doubled down the left field line to drive in all three runs to extend the Tigers’ lead to 8-0.
- Over the next two innings, Salve Regina cut into the lead after scoring five runs.
- The Tigers tacked on another run in the eighth inning when Reade popped up to right field on a sacrifice fly to bring in Josh Eagle. In all, Reade finished with 6 RBIs to lead RIT.

RIT makes its home debut this Friday (Mar. 14) by hosting St. John Fisher. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Baseball sweeps weekend games at RussMatt Invitational
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The RIT baseball team earned three wins over the weekend as the Tigers have now won five-straight games.
RIT 9-4 FONTBONNE
- Trailing 4-0 in the sixth inning, RIT rallied back in the seventh to tie the game when Jackson Rusiecki singled to right field, bringing in Randy Dodigand John Bagley. Later in the inning, Jarin Moses put the Tigers in the lead with a three-run homer.
- In the eighth inning, Charlie Slaymakerand Dewey Rautzhan each scored on a pair of wild pitches to give RIT the 9-4 win of the Griffins.
- Starting pitcher John Arnold along with Dodig reached notable milestones as Arnold made his program leading 37th start as Dodig finished the game as the program’s all-time leader in at-bats.
RIT 10-0 LAKELAND
- RIT used a four-run second inning to take control of the game against Lakeland.
- Pitcher Luc Rising threw five innings, allowing one hit while striking our four batters to earn the win.
RIT 9-7 RUSSELL SAGE
- With the game tied, 4-4 through four innings, Moses reached on a fielder’s choice to bring Isaac Breagelmann home to give RIT a one-run lead in the sixth.
- Russell Sage regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth after James Lubanski singled to drive in Dom Caminitti.
- The Tigers got the lead back in the top of the eighth when Moses sent the ball of the outfield fence to score two runs, put the score at 8-7.
- Charlie Slaymaker hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Dorian Stroud to score later in the eighth to make it a two-run lead.
