Gates Chili Varsity Spartans watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 14-5 loss to Penfield on Friday. Penfield scored on a double by Alex Young in the first inning, a double by Jacob Natale in the first inning, a single by Gabe Reyes in the second inning, a error in the second inning, and a double by Natale in the second inning.
The Gates Chili Varsity Spartans struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Penfield, giving up 14 runs.
Penfield pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Reyes singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, an error scored one run for Penfield, and Natale doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
Penfield scored five runs in the fourth inning. Penfield’s big inning was driven by a triple by Young and by Aiden Cook.
Jack Fichtner was on the pitcher’s mound for Penfield. The ace allowed ten hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out nine.
James Connolly was on the hill for Gates Chili Varsity Spartans. Connolly allowed seven hits and 11 runs over three innings, striking out three. Jeffrey Fisher and Regan Clancy entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Gates Chili Varsity Spartans collected ten hits on the day. Jordan Hoock, Jeremy Tantalo, Dylan Sweeney, and Connolly all managed multiple hits for Gates Chili Varsity Spartans. Connolly, Sweeney, Tantalo, and Hoock each collected two hits to lead Gates Chili Varsity Spartans.
Penfield tallied 11 hits on the day. Aiden Pellow, Young, Reyes, and Natale all collected multiple hits for Penfield. Penfield didn’t commit a single error in the field. Young had the most chances in the field with eight.
