SJB Joins 1,000 Point Club, Golden Eagles Down Nazareth 85-72

Brockport, NY- The Brockport women’s basketball team remained unbeaten in Empire 8 play, defeating Nazareth, 85-72, on Friday, February 7th. The Golden Eagles improved to 19-2 overall and 12-0 in Empire 8 play.

Surpassing 1,000 points as a Golden Eagle, Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the charge with 18 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the field and making four of five 3-pointer attempts, adding five assists.

Kaileigh Hunt was a significant contributor, posting a double-double, scoring 17 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and adding two steals.

Cam Tooley led the scoring charge with 19 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field with five assists and eight rebounds.

The Golden Eagles started the first quarter trailing but quickly gained momentum with key plays from Peyton Maneri and Stephanie Jean-Baptiste. At 6:30, Maneri hit a 3-pointer assisted by Shannon Blankenship, narrowing the Golden Flyers’ lead. Jean-Baptiste made significant contributions with a fast-break 3-pointer at the 5-minute mark, followed by a layup with 1:30 remaining, helping to secure a 22-13 lead by the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Brockport maintained a consistent performance, thanks to their defensive efforts. A steal by Peyton Maneri and a block by Claire Turner helped secure a narrow lead, ending the quarter with a six-point advantage.

In the third quarter, the Golden Eaagles maintained a slight lead over the Golden Flyers, outscoring them 19-18 in the frame. Shannon Blankenshipconnected on a fast break layup before adding a free throw to extend the lead to 47-42 with 2:30 left on the clock. SJB secured the final momentum shift for Brockport,  hitting a 3-pointer, assisted by Jackie Kozakiewicz, sealing the quarter with a 59-52 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Kaileigh Hunt was excellent, adding multiple key baskets, including a layup at 4:30 and a jumper at 2:15, fueling Brockport’s 26-point quarter. Cam Tooley further extended the lead with a successful 3-pointer with 1:15 remaining, assisted by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, who also recorded several rebounds and assists throughout the quarter.

The Golden Eagles got it going from downtown, shooting 9-21 from beyond the arc (42.9%).
