Men’s Basketball Picks Up 7th Straight Win on Senior Day

Brockport, NY – SUNY Brockport (14-8) defeated the Cardinals (6-16) with a final score of 96-80 on Saturday. This victory marked Brockport’s seventh consecutive win, placing them in sole ownership of first place in the conference. The Golden Eagles improved to 14-8 overall and 12-1 in the Empire 8.

Tony Arnold stood out for SUNY Brockport with a versatile performance, recording 11 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals in their latest game. 

Mekhi Beckett also made a significant impact, leading the team with 14 points, including 3 three-pointers, and contributing 6 assists.

Alex Tavarez added to the scoring effort with 15 points on efficient shooting, making 6 of 8 basket attempts, and also recorded 2 steals. 

Adewale Fasanmi was a defensive presence, blocking 2 shots and grabbing 7 rebounds. 

Zachary Rice showcased his shooting accuracy from beyond the arc, hitting 4 of 7 3-pointer attempts to accumulate a total of 12 points.

In the first half, SUNY Brockport overcame an early deficit to take the lead over the Cardinals. After trailing 10-0, Brockport rallied with Tony Arnoldcontributing significantly, including a layup at 12:15 to narrow the gap. 

The team maintained momentum with key plays from Alex Tavarez, whose 3-pointer at 3:22 expanded the lead, and contributions from Nathaniel Gordon and Colby Jordan. By the end of the half, Brockport held a 48-40 advantage, supported by effective bench performance and a strong defensive effort highlighted by eight steals.

In the second half, SUNY Brockport maintained a strong offensive presence, scoring 48 points. Key contributors included Mekhi Beckett, who made significant plays with a 3-pointer at 12:15 and a jumper at 10:30, both assisted by Tony Arnold, who also provided crucial defensive support with rebounds and a block. 

Zachary Rice added to the lead with two consecutive 3-pointers at 9:45 and 8:30. Despite a series of fouls, the team capitalized on turnovers and maintained momentum, securing a 96-80 final.

Brockport will be on the road for its next contest against Alfred University for more conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm on Friday, February 14th out in Alfred, NY.
