Men’s Lax Holds Off Knights, 10-9
ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men’s lacrosse picked up an important conference win over Geneseo on Saturday at NLPA field, as the Golden Flyers downed the Knights 10-9. Jakob Denkenberger was once again a stud at the faceoff x, winning 16-of-22 and picking up 11 ground balls.
Nazareth is now 9-4 overall and 5-0 in Empire 8 play, while the Knights drop to 6-6 and 3-2, respectively.
The Golden Flyers open strong, scoring the first four goals of the game in under eight minutes from Quinn McKercher, Brendan Regan, Kyle Rosenberger, and Matthew Farrington.
Nazareth, however was held scoreless from the 6:29 mark of the first quarter until halftime as Geneseo knotted up the score 4-4 at the break.
As it did to open the game, Nazareth scored the first four goals of the second half to reclaim control, two from Owen Riley, one from Farrington and the other from Andy Hamel. The score was 9-5 heading into the final quarter.
The Knights gave it their all in the fourth, scoring four goals and coming within 9-8 before William O’Neill scored a tough goal with 3:02 remaining to make it 10-8.
Geneseo came within one goal with 1:34 to play and had an opportunity on the offensive end, however freshman Nicholas Hinckcaused a turnover with :42 seconds which allowed Nazareth to run out the clock.
McLean Ralston made nine saves in the win.
Farrington finished with four points.
Nazareth hosts Alfred at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
