Women’s Basketball Takes Another Conference W

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Three were in double-digits on Friday night as Nazareth tallied another conference win against Hartwick 75-42. All twelve of Nazareth’s players contributed to the scoring efforts in the victory.

The Golden Flyers’ record improves to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while Hartwick drops to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Nazareth commanded the game from the jump-ball, going up 16-4 in just over five minutes of game-play. By the end of the first quarter, Nazareth, going 73.33% from the field, held a 25-7 lead.

The Golden Flyers’ offense continued to pressure Hartwick in the second quarter, while Nazareth’s defense held the Hawks under double digits again. Nazareth outscored Hartwick by 12 in the second, to go up 46-16 heading into the second half.

Scoring in the first half for the Golden Flyers was Katie MacLachlan with 14, Madalyn Kelly and Kiara Anglin with eight each, Molly Benetti with seven, Sarina McDowell with four, Madilann Johnson with three, and Leah Fusilli with two.

In the third, Nazareth continued to knock down shots, going 58.33% from the field in the quarter.

The final quarter was Nazareth’s weakest scoring segment, the Golden Flyers scoring 14 points to Hartwick’s 16 on a 40% field goal percentage. The game concluded at a score of 75-42 in favor of the Golden Flyers.

MacLachlan led the scoring efforts with 16 points while also having a team-high nine rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Freshman Peyton Littlefield had 11 points, going 4-6, while Kelly added 10 points on a perfect shooting day, going 4-4 from the field. Anglin added eight points to the tally along with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Benetti had seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists. McDowell also had a perfect shooting day, scoring six points on 3-3 from the field, while also adding five rebounds. Chianna Williams and Fusilli each added four points and two assist, while Fusilli also tallied five rebounds. Johnson scored three points for the Golden Flyers while Morgan CaraballoTessa Schuey, and Brayden Schultz each added two. Schuey and Schultz also added three and five rebounds respectively.

The Golden Flyers will be back on the floor on January 18th at 2 p.m. at Russel Sage.

Women’s Basketball Finishes Weekend 2-0 After a 62-52 Win Over Russell Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Golden Flyers were able to close out a weekend on the road with 2 wins after defeating Russell Sage 62-52 on Saturday afternoon. Sarina McDowell led Nazareth’s scoring efforts with 16 points, while Kiara Anglin led the battle on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Nazareth’s record improves to 6-0 in the conference and 12-3 overall while Sage’s record drops to 2-4 in the conference and 3-10 overall.

The first quarter was Nazareth’s strongest shooting quarter, going 9-14 from the field to earn a 64.29 shooting percentage. The game started quick for the Flyers, scoring a layup off of the jump-ball, turning around and getting a steal, and then scoring a jumper all in the first 45 seconds of play.

The Gators battled back with buckets of their own, but they could not close the gap and Nazareth held the lead for the first ten minutes, heading into the second quarter at a score of 19-14.

The second quarter started with the two teams trading points, but Nazareth continued to hold the lead. Around the four-minute mark, Nazareth went up by three possessions for the first time all game with a lead of 33-26. The Golden Flyers continued to slowly pull away for the last four minutes, and the half ended at a score of 37-28.

Scoring in the first half for the Golden Flyers was Katie MacLachlan with seven, as well as Molly BenettiLeah Fusilli, and McDowell each with three. Anglin had four in the half, while teammates Madilann Johnson and Payton Littlefield each added three, and Madalyn Kelly tallied two.

In the third quarter, the two teams continued to battle back and forth. With 1 minute and 45 seconds left in the quarter, the Golden Flyers held a lead of 14 at 52-38, but the Gators were able to close that gap to 11 heading into the final ten minutes of play.

In the final quarter with 3 minutes and 14 seconds left, Nazareth held its largest lead (+16) at 62-46. Sage went on a run in the final minutes of the game, but the deficit was too much to come back from in three minutes and Nazareth took the win at a score of 62-52.

McDowell was the only Golden Flyer in double-digits with 16 points, while also adding three rebounds. MacLachlan put up nine points and come down with six boards, while also tallying four assists and three steals. Benetti, Kelly, and Fusilli each had eight points, Benetti also adding four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Fusilli also added six rebounds and two steals. Anglin had 11 boards, seven points, five blocks, and two assists. Littlefield and Johnson each had three points, while Johnson also added four assists and two rebounds.

The Golden Flyers will be back in action on January 24th at 5:30 p.m. to take on Elmira at home.
