Women’s Basketball Takes Down Houghton Behind Katie Moravec’s 33 Points
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Senior guard Katie Moravec’scareer-high 33 points led the St. John Fisher University women’s basketball team to an 81-62 victory over Houghton University on Tuesday night at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
The Cardinals (9-4, 4-0 Empire 8) have won four straight games to start conference play, all of them by more than 15 points. Houghton dropped to 11-2 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8 with the loss.
Moravec shot 12-23 from the field (2 of 3 from 3-point range) and made all seven of her free-throw attempts. She also led the Cardinals in rebounds (9) and assists (6) as part of her best collegiate performance.
How It Happened
- After a first half during which neither team led by more than eight, the Cardinals pulled away from the Highlanders in the final 20 minutes. Fisher, which led by five (34-29) at halftime, outscored Houghton 26-15 in the third quarter en route to a 60-44 lead.
- Moravec scored 12 points in the third while shooting 5 of 8 overall (1 of 1 from three) and 1 of 1 from the line. Fellow senior guard Emily McLaughlin scored six points, knocking down 3-point shots on consecutive possessions late in the quarter.
- The Cardinals pushed their lead to a game-high 20 points in the fourth. Moravec scored 15 of Fisher’s 21 points in the quarter while shooting 4 of 7 overall (1 of 1 from three) and 6 of 6 from the line.

- Junior guard Hannah Ferguson also had 11 points. She shot 4 of 7 overall and knocked down a career-best three triples.
