Women’s Soccer Claims E8 Regular Season Title & Clinches No. 1 Seed
Geneseo, NY – The Golden Eagle women’s soccer team took the 3-1 win against the Geneseo Knights, clinching the Empire 8 Regular Season Title and the No. 1 seed. This takes the team to 14-1-1 overall and 10-1 in the conference heading into a home postseason game on Saturday.
At just 6:15 into the match, Sierra Edwards scored on her opportunity provided by an assist from Jaylah Cossin to make it a quick 1-0 lead on the road. Just five minutes later, Jaylah Cossin also found the back of the net with an unassisted goal bringing the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.
At 24:07, Geneseo fought for a spot on the scoreboard and found it, bringing the score to 2-1 going into halftime.
Coming back from the halftime break, Amelia Breton snuck the ball in scoring the only goal of the half, with yet another assist by Cossin. Cossin totaled four points on the day with one goal and two assists.
Madeline McCrosson was in between the pipes for the Green and Gold and had a total of four saves on the day. McCrosson now sits at a hard earned 9-1 record in the 2024 season.
The team fought hard for a total of 13 shots total with nine on net compared to Geneseo’s 11 with five on goal. Sierra Edwards, Jaylah Cossin, Amelia Breton, Lyndsey Miller, Megan Gerber, Caitlin Nelson, and McKenna Slate all contributed to the shot total.
