PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Make it a four-peat! Fifth-year forward Daniel Cook made history as the first four-time Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Year ever. The Honeoye Falls native, who also won Defensive Player of the Year honors and a spot on the All-Conference first team, was one of three Cardinals to earn awards this season.

Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team
Daniel Cook played and started all 25 games and finished the regular season tops in the conference in scoring (20.6 points per game) and blocks (1.5 per game). The Pittsford Mendon graduate was second in rebounding (9.4 per game), steals (2.0 per game) and in field goal percentage (.546). He also finished fifth in assists (3.1 per game). The 6’6′ forward also made history this season by reaching 2,000 points in his college career. His 35 points against Carnegie Mellon on November 28 were the most for a Cardinal all season.

Cook won four weekly Empire 8 honors this season. He is the first Cardinal to win Defensive Player of the Year honors since Sean Williams took home the award in the 2020-21 season.

Third Team
Sophomore guard Brendan McRoy landed on the All-Conference third team after playing in and starting all 25 of the Cardinals’ games this regular season. He placed second in the conference in assists/turnover ratio (1.5), third in total assists (82), and fourth in assists per game (3.3) while averaging 11.4 points per game. He trailed only Cook in minutes for the Cardinals, and was second on the team in total three-pointers, with 15.

This is McRoy’s first All-Conference selection.

Sportsman of the Year
Senior forward Connor Recore earned Fisher’s spot for Sportsman of the Year. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that “Competing with Honor and Integrity” is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. Conor and the honorees from other teams have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen
