Wiele Scores UAA Athlete of the Week Honor

University of Rochester men’s basketball senior guard Matt Wiele was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Wiele was Rochester’s leading scorer across two games during a 1-1 week on the court. The senior averaged 21.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.5 bpg and 1.5 spg while also shooting 18-of-27 (.667) overall from the field and 5-of-8 (.625) from three-point range.
In UR’s win over Emory on Saturday, Wiele had 24 points, going 10-for-14 from the field and 3-for-5 from distance while securing six rebounds, handling five assists and recording a block and a steal. The senior also recorded the game-winning basket to put Rochester up 78-77 with seven seconds left in the game.
While in Tuesday’s loss at Johns Hopkins, Wiele had 19 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks, making 8-of-13 shots overall and 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Wiele earns his second UAA Athlete of the Week honor this season, and the third of his career.
