Soccer Teams Honored With United Soccer Coaches Academic Award
KANSAS CITY, MO. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men’s and women’s soccer programs have been recognized as academic team winners by the United Soccer Coaches for the 2022-23 academic year.
This honor is becoming a pattern under men’s soccer coach Scott Reber and women’s soccer coach Sarah McClellan. The men have received the honor in all but one of Reber’s 10 seasons and the women have been honored every year since McClellan arrived in 2016.
“Academics are a priority, leadership and growth are a priority, becoming the best soccer players and team we can be while competing at the highest level is a priority,” McClellan said. “I am very proud of our teams for their commitment to our priorities and the work they do every day to achieve greatness.”
“While we all love this beautiful game, we recognize that each student-athlete is here to get an education and we absolutely make that a priority,” Reber said.
To be eligible for the USC Team Academic Award, teams must earn a 3.0 composite GPA or higher for the duration of the academic year. Roberts was one of 191 institutions to have both of its programs honored. The women finished with a 3.52 GPA and the men finished with a 3.30.
The 2022 teams also found success on the field as both advanced to the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Championship. The men placed second at the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I National Championship and the women advanced to the NCCAA Division I semifinals.
