Cowan’s Double-Double Propels Saints Past Formidable Clarkson
The St. Lawrence University men’s basketball team got out to a big lead against their regional rival from Clarkson and didn’t look back, handing the Golden Knights their first Liberty League loss of 2024. The Saints held them off, winning 73-66 to improve their record to 5-3 on the season, and 2-1 in the Liberty League.
The game began with the Saints applying a ton of pressure right off the hop, and ended up with a significant lead in the first half. Just past the halfway mark, the Saints held a 22-7 lead over the 6-1 Golden Knights. That served as a good cushion for what followed – a 12-0 run by the Golden Knights to cut St. Lawrence’s lead to three. The Scarlet and Brown followed that up by a 6-0 run of their own to go into halftime up nine.
Clarkson kept chipping away at the St. Lawrence lead, briefly cutting it to one, but the Saints were able to keep the lead. Then Clarkson began fouling late in the game, and the Saints received some clutch free throws being made by Trey Syroka and Adam Dudzinski to build up a late lead, preserving the wire-to-wire victory.
