After a terrific weekend in a Liberty League Crossover Series against Bard College, senior outfielder Aaron Whitley of the University of Rochester baseball team has been selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Wednesday.
Whitley was nearly perfect at the plate for Rochester, going a combined 7-for-8 (.875) with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 4 RBI. The senior added 15 total bases for a 1.875 slugging percentage and chipped in one walk, reaching base eight out of nine plate appearances (.889). He also swiped four steals in the UR two-game sweep of the Raptors.
In Saturday’s game one, a 10-2 Yellowjackets win, Whitley was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 4 RBI. The 12 total bases ranked as the third most in a single game in program history. He also stole three bags and scored four runs.
Whitley backed that up with a 3-for-4 performance on Sunday to complete the series win, scoring twice and adding another steal to his total. Rochester won that game 9-3 to advance to this weeks Liberty League Championship.
For the season, Whitley is leading Rochester with a .381 average over 39 games. He also is tops on the Yellowjackets in runs (49), slugging (.600), on-base percentage (.450) and extra base hits (20).
The Team of the Week award is the fourth in his terrific Yellowjackets career. He was named twice in 2021 and once last season.
