Men’s Basketball tops Brockport, 83-78

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The RIT men’s basketball team picked up an 83-78 road win at Brockport, Tuesday. Graduate student Kenny Wilburn led the Tigers with 26 points to go along with nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing by 11 points with less than three minutes left in the first half, RIT used a 14-2 run to take a 34-33 lead into the break.
  • In the second half, graduate student guard Matt Caggiano gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game (8 points) with 8:05 remaining by hitting a layup off an assist from sophomore guard Brody Brown.
  • Brockport cut the Tigers’ lead to one point with 27 seconds left after Jakhi Lucas converted a pair of free throws.
  • Caggiano hit four shots from charity stripe in the final seconds to solidify the win for RIT.

GAME NOTES

  • Wilburn’s 26-point effort is a season high and is now averaging 16.7 points per game. The forward’s single-game career best was 32 points against Wells on Nov. 14, 2023.
  • Senior guard Brock Bowen added 23 points after going 8 of 17 from the field, including 6 of 13 from beyond the arc.
  • Caggiano scored nine points while being credited with seven assists.
  • Both teams shot 42.9 percent from the field, however the Tigers shot 30.3 percent (10 of 33) from three-point range while Brockport was held to 4 of 17 from long range.

RIT opens their Liberty League schedule at home this Friday (Dec. 6) when they host Bard at 7:30 p.m.
