Overton, Mastro, and Malone Help Women’s Soccer Open Season With 2-0 Victory Over Endicott
ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Tatum Overton and Kiyomi Mastro each scored in the second half on Friday to help lift Nazareth to a season-opening 2-0 win over Endicott College at Golden Flyer Stadium.
How it Happened:
- After several quality chance, Overton finally broke through near the 60-minute mark. Mastro played a short ball in the midfield to first-year Giuliana Rodriguez, who threaded a pass behind the defense to Overton streaking down the left-hand side. Overton was able to toe poke it past the Gulls keeper.
- Delaney Malone, making her first-career start, earned her first win with nine saves.
- Malone came up huge in the 72nd minute when the Golden Flyers surrendered a penalty kick. The senior stood tall, diving to her right and stopping the knee-high shot headed towards the side netting.
- Mastro got in on the scoring in the 84th minute as a long ball from Caitlyn Smithers was misplaced by the goalkeeper and cashed in by the junior.
- Overton delivered a strong chance in the 17th minute. She took a through ball from Mastro and delivered a shot just over the crossbar from 22-yards out
- Overton had another good bid on goal three minutes into the second half but her shot from 20-yards out sailed high of the net.

- The goal was Overton’s 24th of her career. She led the Golden Flyers a season ago with eight goals.

- Nazareth will host Grove City on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Wolverines made the NCAA tournament a season ago after going 13-4-3, falling in the first round 3-1 to Misericordia.

- Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Shannon Sgombick scored the game-winner and sophomore Paige Barlow netted her first career goal on Saturday against Grove City to help Nazareth go 2-0 in its opening weekend after a 2-0 victory. The Golden Flyers downed Endicott 2-0 on Friday.
- How it Happened:
- In the 14th minute, Sgombick netted her first goal of the season. She stole the ball away from the defender and slotted a perfect shot past the keeper off the inside post and in.
- Nazareth steadied possession for the opening half, holding an 8-2 advantage in shots. The Golden Flyers finished the game with an 18-5 edge.
- Kiyomi Mastro had a near-goal off a corner kick in the 60th minute but the keeper made the save.
- Mastro had another strong chance in the 71st minute, rocketing a shot from 25-yards out off the crossbar and down before the goalkeeper cleared it from going in.
- A beautiful buildup out of the midfield led to Barlow’s first-career goal in the 90th minute. Tatum Overton played an overlapping run from Taylor Ashedown the right side. Ashe got to the endline and crossed it back for Barlow to bury into the left corner.
