25 Baseball Earns Pair of Home Opener Wins Over Elmira
Brockport, NY- The #25 Brockport baseball team celebrated their home opener with a doubleheader sweep of Elmira on Friday, April 4th. The Golden Eagles improved to 17-2-1 overall and 6-0 in Empire 8 play.
Game One: Brockport 6 – Elmira 0 (7 innings)
Anthony Lapine (W, 5-0) continued his excellent season, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
Jason Story would put Brockport ahead early, smashing a two-run double to right field in the first inning to put Brockport up 2-0.
Following three scoreless innings, Kyle Blake would add to Brockport’s lead with an RBI double, putting Brockport in front 3-0.
The Golden Eagles would run away in the sixth inning, with Frank Vanzillota’s RBI groundout setting the table for a Josh Index RBI single and Zach Eldred’s sacrifice fly to secure a 6-0 victory for the Green and Gold.
Troy Leibert would continue his scoreless streak, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and two strikeouts, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning.
Josh Index would power the offense with three hits, coming around to score twice.
Game Two: Brockport 5 – Elmira 3
Much like game one, Brockport would jump ahead early, with a James Dixon RBI single in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Dixon would go two for three at the plate in aa strong effort.
The Soaring Eagles however would respond, scoring the contest’s next three runs to enter the bottom of the sixth inning up 3-1.
Chris Martin would provide a pitch-hit sacrifice fly in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Golden Eagles would strand runners in scoring position.
Needing a momentum shift in the bottom of the seventh, Jason Story would come through when it mattered most. Story would blast a three-run, go-ahead home run to put Brockport ahead 5-3, his sixth deep fly of the season.
Eric Servellon (S, 3) would shut the door with a scoreless ninth inning, punching out three Elmira batters to secure a 5-3 win for Brockport.
Tyler Pohlman (W, 2-0) picked up the win in relief, tossing 1.2 hitless innings with two punchouts.
Jason Story would lead Brockport with three runs scored and three RBIs, going two for three in game two.
Zach Eldred would notch a hit in each contest, extending his record-breaking hit streak to 23 games.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will host Elmira for the final game of the three-game set on Sunday, April 6th at noon.

#25 Golden Eagles Blank Fisher 7-0, Improves to 8-0 in League Play
Brockport, NY- The #25 ranked Brockport baseball team downed St, John Fisher at home, 7-0, on Monday, April 7th. The Golden Eagles improved to 19-2-1 overall, remaining undefeated in Empire 8 contests with an 8-0 record.
Zach Eldred (W, 5-0) continued his incredible two-way season, tossing seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts and just three hits allowed. At the plate, Eldred would extend his program-record-hitting streak to 25 games, going two-for-four with a two-run home run.
Kyle Blake would kickstart the offense in the first inning, scoring Josh Index with an RBI double to put Brockport ahead 1-0.
The Golden Eagles would net three more runs in the second inning, thanks to excellent baserunning and St. John Fisher miscues. Jason Mansell’s RBI bunt would score Victor Alongi before a Cardinal error and Frank Vanzillota’s RBI groundout would expand Brockport’s lead to 4-0.
Zach Eldred would strike in the bottom of the seventh, launching a two-run opposite-field home run to put the Golden Eagles ahead 6-0.
Jason Mansell would add his second RBI of the afternoon, scoring Alongi once again with a sacrifice fly to round out the scoring for Brockport.
Eric Servellon would lock down the game for Brockport, pitching two shutout innings with four punchouts to secure the Brockport win.
Kyle Blake continued his excellent sophomore season, going a perfect four for four at the plate with an RBI.
Victor Alongi led Brockport with two runs scored, going two for three with a walk in a strong performance.
The Green and Gold have outscored their opponents 43-8 over their five-game Empire 8 winning streak.
