Women’s Basketball Eclipses 100 points in E8 Quarterfinal Rout of Elmira

Brockport, NY- The #1 seeded Brockport women’s basketball team is heading to the Empire 8 Semifinals, rolling past Elmira, 101-62, on Saturday, February 22nd. The win moved Brockport to 23-3 on the season with a 15-1 record in the Empire 8.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led all scorers with 25 points in 22 minutes off the bench on 9-17 shooting, adding three steals.

Kaileigh Hunt was excellent throughout, dropping 15 points (6-7 FG) with ten rebounds, four steals, and two blocks in a double-double effort.

Mandy Brink continued her strong play, pouring in 15 points with nine rebounds off the bench.

Shannon Blankenship (13 points, 3-5 3PT) and Harmony Philo (10 points, 2-5 3PT) were excellent from beyond the arc, combining for 23 points.

The first quarter saw a Brockport jump out to an early lead, highlighted by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, who scored seven points, including a crucial three-pointer at 3:56 to break an early tie. Kaileigh Huntcontributed significantly with multiple offensive rebounds and a tip-in to push Brockport ahead. The Golden Eagles capitalized on turnovers throughout the quarter, closing the quarter up 25-18.

In the second quarter, the Green and Gold showcased efficient scoring and defense, resulting in a 29-17 advantage over the Soaring Eagles in the quarter. Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was instrumental, contributing with a layup and a three-pointer, while Peyton Maneri’s defense led to multiple steals. The quarter saw Brockport excel on the fast break, which extended their lead to 37-21. Brockport’s defense forced the Soaring Eagles into eight turnovers, entering halftime up 54-35.

In the third quarter, the Golden Eagles would extend its lead, scoring 24 points to Elmira’s 19. Shannon Blankenship would drill a three-pointer at 8:26, followed by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste’ssuccessful three at 8:07, contributing to a scoring run. Kaileigh Hunt also played a key role, scoring a layup with 1:22 left, solidifying Brockport’s lead in the quarter.

The fourth quarter would see Brockport outscore the Soaring Eagles 23-8. Cam Tooley facilitated with an assist at 8:25, leading to a three-pointer by Shannon BlankenshipMandy Brink continued her strong outing, burying two of three free throws in the final moments to cross the century mark and help give Brockport the 101-62 victory.

The Golden Eagles dominated the turnover battle (23 to 9), adding effective shooting from downtown (11-27, 40.7%).

Up Next: Brockport will host Nazareth in the Empire 8 Semifinals on Wednesday, February 26th, with the time of the contest to still be determined.
