Women’s Basketball Wins 11th Game In Row
UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women’s basketball team beat SUNY Poly 58-35 on Saturday afternoon for its 11th consecutive victory.
Senior guard Katie Moravec scored 15 points while shooting 7 of 12 overall (1 of 3 from three) as the Cardinals improved to 16-4 (11-0 Empire 8). SUNY Poly fell to 3-16 overall (2-8 Empire 8).
How It Happened
- The Cardinals once again pounced on their opponent early, outscoring SUNY Poly 20-2 in the first quarter. Fisher had an 18-0 lead by the time the Wildcats got a shot to go down with just under two minutes left in the quarter.
- The Cardinals have outscored their opponents by 124 points in the first quarter of games this season (386-262).
- Fisher, which led by as many as 30 points in the second quarter, had a 27-point lead at halftime (36-9).
- The Cardinals pushed their lead to a game-high 33 points at various points in the second half.
Game Notes
- The Cardinals allowed a season-low 35 points on Saturday, the third time this season they gave up fewer than 40 points in a game. SUNY Poly scored just 37 points in the first meeting between the teams back on Jan. 10.
- The Cardinals pulled down 17 offensive rebounds, their fourth most in a game this season. They scored 17 second-chance points to Poly’s four.
- Fisher outscored Poly 36-10 in the paint.
- The Cardinals held the Wildcats to 11 of 51 shooting (21.6%).
- Senior guards Sidney Tomasso and Emily McLaughlin contributed nine points apiece. Tomasso also led Fisher with four steals.
- Senior forward Hannah Ferguson pulled down nine rebounds, tying her season high.
