Baseball wins 5-4 at Hobart on walk-off in ninth

GENEVA, N.Y. – RIT sophomore Jarin Moseshit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Tigers to a 5-4 victory against Hobart, Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
*RIT was considered home team for this contest

  • Hobart took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single to right field
  • The Statesman scored two more runs in the third on a two fielder’s choices that scored the base runners from third
  • In the fifth, junior Randy Dodig hit a 2 RBI single that scored senior John Bagley and sophomore Charlie Slaymaker, cutting Hobart’s lead to one
  • The Statesman took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on an RBI single
  • Relief pitchers Peter Bossinas and Matthew Chase did not allow any runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings
  • In the bottom of the ninth, junior Christopher Colella scored on a throwing error by the Hobart defense and junior Adam Marsh hit a sacrifice fly that scored Slaymaker, tying the game at 4-4. The next batter sophomore Jarin Moses, hit an RBI single to left field that scored Caelan Kim and won the game for the Tigers

GAME NOTES

  • Dodig went 2-for-4 from the plate with a team-high 2 RBI
  • Chase allowed one hit in his 2.2 inning outing
  • Sophomore Trent Rapp led the team with nine total putouts
