Baseball Drops Season Opener Against New Jersey City

Box Score Brooklyn, NY – The Brockport baseball team dropped Saturday’s season opener against New Jersey City, 6-3.

The Knights started off hot in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs thanks in part to a two-run double from Justin Moreno.

Colin Pytlak would bounce back following a rocky first inning, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings and punching out five NJCU batters.

The Golden Eagles would get on the scoreboard in the 6th inning, thanks to a double steal that saw Zach Eldred steal second, allowing James Simoncelli to steal a run for the Green and Gold.

Entering the top of the 9th down 6-1, the Golden Eagles would rally for two runs, with Josh Indekdrawing a bases-loaded walk, and James Simoncelli driving in a run with a fielder’s choice.

The Brockport rally would be cut short in the 9th, with left fielder Bryan Fernandez robbing Zach Eldred of an RBI hit.

Troy Leibert was strong in relief, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing only one run.

Josh Indek reached base safely three times, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Freshman Steven Ciancio III ripped a pinch-hit double off the bench for Brockport.

Angelo Agro added a scoreless inning from the bullpen for the Green and Gold.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will take on Kean University in Union, NJ on Sunday, February 25th at noon.
