Rit goes 2-1 in Florida trip for baseball recap from Rit website below

Baseball goes 2-1 in opening weekend of RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

AUBURNDALE, F.L. – The RIT baseball team split a series with Dickinson on Saturday, winning 10-2 and losing 13-3, before defeating Illinois Tech. 4-2 on Sunday, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

GAME ONE – RIT 10, Dickinson 2 (7 inn.)
Sophomore designated hitter Trent Rappwent 3-for-4, including a solo home run, collecting 3 RBI on the day, while senior pitcher John Arnold threw five scoreless innings, leading the Tigers in a 10-2 victory over Dickinson in game one of a doubleheader, Saturday.

  • Two RBI singles from junior right fielder Adam Marsh and sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker, gave the Tigers an early 2-0 lead in the first inning
  • Junior shortstop Randy Dodig earned an RBI single in the second, increasing RIT’s lead to three
  • Rapp doubled in the third, scoring Slaymaker and Marsh, followed by a single from first-year left fielder Mikey Zacher that scored Rapp, giving the Tigers a 5-0 lead
  • In the fifth, Rapp hit a solo home run and sophomore second baseman Jarin Moses earned a single that scored two base runners, putting RIT ahead 9-0
  • Dodig hit his second RBI single of the day, scoring Rapp and increasing the Tigers’ lead to 10 in the sixth inning
  • After five scoreless innings from Arnold, Dickinson scored two runs in the sixth off of two throwing errors
  • Sophomore pitcher Luc Rising came to the mound in the seventh and helped the Tigers secure a 10-2 victory

GAME TWO – Dickinson 13, RIT 3 (7 inn.)
Junior shortstop Randy Dodig, sophomore second baseman Jarin Moses and graduate student catcher Gil Merod all went 2-for-3 as the Tigers fell to Dickinson, 13-3 in game two of a doubleheader, Saturday.

  • An RBI double from Moses and a fielding error by Dickinson gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the first
  • Dickinson scored one run off of an RBI single in the second, cutting RIT’s lead to two
  • In the fourth, Dickinson’s batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, putting the Red Devils within one
  • Dickinson hit a two-run homer in the fifth, taking a 4-3 lead
  • A grand-slam and an RBI single in the sixth, put the Red Devils in front 9-3
  • Dickinson scored its final four runs in the seventh off of an RBI single and a three-run homer

GAME THREE – RIT 4, Illinois Tech 2
Junior right fielder Adam Marsh went 2-for-4, including a game-winning two-run homer, while sophomore relief pitcher Luc Risinggave up one hit as the Tigers defeated Illinois Tech, 4-2, Sunday.

  • After a scoreless first inning, sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker scored on a passed ball, putting the Tigers in front 1-0
  • Illinois Tech scored one run on a sacrifice fly in the second, tying the game
  • Marsh earned an RBI single in the third, scoring junior shortstop Randy Dodigand giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead
  • Illinois Tech tied the game at after earning an RBI single in the third
  • A two-run homer from Marsh in the fifth, gave RIT a 4-2 lead
  • Rising came to relieve graduate student pitcher Alex Slotter in the sixth and threw four scoreless inning, only allowing one hit, securing a 4-2 victory for the Tigers
