Plattsburgh, NY – Brockport lost a close road contest against the Cardinals Friday night, 73-72, pushing the Golden Eagles to 7-5 and 3-3 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh’s Willard Anderson Jr. hit a pair of free throws at the end of regulation for the win.

Mekhi Beckett finished with a team-high 16 points for the Green and Gold off the bench. Jevonny Brown added 14 points off the bench as well, his second-best scoring night of the season.

For the seventh consecutive game, freshman Alex Tavarez hit double figures. He posted 15 points off the bench. Caquan Wester (6pt, 12 reb) and Tony Arnold (6pt, 9 reb) led the rebounding effort, combining for 21.

It was the hosting Cardinals that first created separation on the scoreboard. They fought to create a 26-15 edge with 7:21 on the clock. Brockport went on a quick run to the close the gap, cutting the deficit to five before halftime.

The Golden Eagles got going midway through the second half, pushing out to a nice lead of their own. They led by 15 points with 5:58 remaining in regulation.

Plattsburgh got hot and made a big run down the stretch to close the gap. A pair of free throws by Beckett would keep Brockport’s lead up to five with 27 seconds left.

The Cardinals would get to the line for two more and hit a clutch 3-pointer with 20 seconds left to make it a 1-point game (72-71). They would win it at the free throw line at the end of regulation thanks to Willard Anderson Jr.

The Golden Eagles look to get back in the win column tomorrow in another conference game on the road. They will head over to Potsdam for a 4pm start against the Bears.
