Rochester, NY – Moe Biao and Terrence Fields recorded 15 points each to lead the SUNY Canton men’s basketball team to an 84-78 win vs. Buffalo State in the consolation game of the Mike Daley Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Nazareth.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Roos jumped out to an early 8-2 lead before the Bengals responded with a 9-2 run to take an 11-10 lead.
  • The Bengals led by as many as five (17-12), while Canton opened a seven point lead (35-28) with 4:24 to go in the first half after a Kevin Goode Jr. three-pointer.
  • Buffalo State used a 7-0 run from there to tie things up at 35 each. In a game of runs Canton closed the final 2:50 of the half on a 13-4 run to take a 48-39 lead into intermission.
  • The Roos led by as many as 14 on multiple occasions early in the second half and continued to lead by seven (79-72) after a made jumper from Biao inside with 4:44 to play.
  • Buffalo State would cut the deficit in half a minute later, but that was as close as they would get as Biao went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final 3:20.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Biao and Fields supplied 15 points each with Biao adding six rebounds and a 7-for-10 mark from the line. Bryon Strebfinished with 11 points and Jevonte Williams added 10 points and five rebounds.
  • Ian Florence-Washington chipped in nine points, Eli Larson added eight points and 11 boards and Goode Jr. registered seven points. Brennan Harmer dished out a game-high seven assists and recorded a game-best four steals to go with four points.
  • Matt Parkinson paced the Bengals with a game-high 26 points and Nigel Burch added 18 points and nine rebounds.
  • Canton shot 42 % from the field and 30% from three-point range, while Buffalo state finished with marks of nearly 37% and 33%, respectively.
  • The Roos held a 39-21 advantage in bench points, while the Bengals controlled second chance points 16-9.

WHAT’S NEXT?
The men’s basketball team will play its third game in four days when it plays an exhibition at NCAA Division I Le Moyne College on Monday at 7 p.m.
