ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Dan Doviak and Reid Jackowskimade sure the Roberts Wesleyan University men’s lacrosse team’s home opener was a festive occasion.
Doviak, a senior, and Jackowski, a graduate student, both scored two goals to lead a 5-2 third-quarter surge as the Redhawks overcame an early 4-1 deficit and defeated Assumption University 10-7 in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Assumption took a 4-1 lead after one quarter, but Roberts (4-1) took over from there. Doviak and Gunner MacMillan found the net in the second quarter to make it 4-3 at halftime and the Redhawks won the second half 7-3 to earn their third straight victory.
Doviak finished with five goals and an assist and Jackowski registered two goals and two assists for Roberts. MacMillan finished with two goals and Jordon Deats added one. Sophomore Andy Daviswas outstanding in goal, recording 20 saves.
Freshman Isaac Marrerro went 13 for 20 on face offs and led Roberts with eight ground balls. Luke Delavak added six ground balls and freshman Brady Kustra caused four turnovers. Delavak, Sam Keensand Ethan Brown were all credited with assists.
Roberts returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday against LeMoyne, the fifth ranked team in NCAA Division II.
