Graduate student Joseph Rende of the Rochester baseball team was honored for his performance on the diamond last week by being selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Wednesday.
Rende, a Babylon, NY native slashed .615 at the plate (8-for-13) with 5 RBI, 6 runs scored, 2 walks, 2 doubles, a triple and a home run. The graduate student also reached base at a .618 clip and slugged 1.154 for the week, helping the Yellowjackets to a 3-1 record, including a conference weekend sweep of Clarkson.
He also was picked as the Liberty League Performer of the Week and had three multi-hit performances during the impressive week. In Friday’s win over Clarkson, he was 3-for-4 at the plate and finished a double shy of the cycle, scoring three runs in the 5-2 Yellowjacket victory. He backed that up with 2-for-3 and 3-for-3 games with multiple RBI’s in each contest in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep.
Defensively, the second baseman also was perfect over the four games, handling 21 chances cleanly, including being a part of five double plays.
