Women’s Hoops Opens Empire 8 Play With 75-58 Win at Utica
Brockport, NY- The Brockport women’s basketball team earned their first Empire 8 victory, 75-58, at Utica on Tuesday, January 7th. The Golden Eagles moved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play following the win.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste set the tone on both sides of the ball, scoring a game-high 22 points with three steals in an excellent outing.
Following an evenly matched first quarter that saw Brockport take a three-point advantage, the Golden Eagles would break away in the second.
Three-point field goals from Cam Tooley, Harmony Philo, and SJB helped fuel a 22-3 scoring run to open the second, giving Brockport a 44-24 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagle defense would control the remainder of the contest, holding the Pioneers to just 26% shooting for the remainder of the contest (9-34). Brockport would contain Utica to just one made three-pointer in the second half (1-8).
Shannon Blankenship turned in a strong performance, dropping a season-high 14 points with five rebounds and two steals.
Cam Tooley (9 rebounds, three assists) and Kaileigh Hunt (6 rebounds, three assists) scored seven points each to pace the offense.
Claire Turner went a perfect 2-2 from the floor (4 points) with six rebounds.
Ten different Golden Eagles would record a made field goal or better in the win.
