Roberts Men’s Indoor Track & Field Places Third at ECC Championships

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men’s indoor track and field team placed third at the East Coast Conference Championships on Sunday evening at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The Redhawks finished with 89 points. Georgian Court and Holy Family tied for first place with 143 points.

Senior Lee Sortore highlighted the meet as a dual winner in his individual events. Sortore won both the mile and 3,00m races. In the mile, Sortore finished in 4:34 while closing out the last 400m in 56 seconds to win the race. In the 3,000m, the senior crossed the line in 8:57.88.

The Redhawks took one-two in the 5,000m with Blake Kasper winning in 15:23.25 and Owen White taking second in 15:28.96. Kasper also had a second place finish in the 3,000m with a time of 9:00.55.

Despite illness and just a 15-minute break in between events, Ryan Karker had a pair of second place finishes. The senior ran 1:06.42 in the 500m and 2:00.17 in the 800m.

In the throws, Demar Osbourne grabbed fourth place in the shot put (13.61m) and Jordan Moran was third in the weight throw with a toss of 12.56 meters.

Roberts will open the outdoor track and field season in the middle of March.
