Men’s Basketball Battles for Road Victory at New Paltz

New Paltz – The SUNY Brockport men’s basketball team took the victory on the road Friday night against the New Paltz Hawks, 66-55. With the win the Golden Eagles move to 14-6 overall, 10-4 in conference play, and jumped to second in the SUNYAC standings.

Brockport had four double-digit scorers on the night, led by Zachary Rice’s 11 points (5-8 FG). Tony Arnold had 10 points and came away with three steals on defense.

Caquan Wester (10 pts, 9 reb) and Alex Tavarez (10 pts, 8 reb) both came close to a double-double in the contest. Tavarez also dished out a team-high three assists on the night.

In the first half, Brockport’s effort on defense held the Hawks to just 17 points. They shot 7-for-28 from the floor and 3-for-12 from beyond the arc to start the game. The Green and Gold took advantage, working to create a 15-point lead at halftime.

New Paltz was able to turn it around offensively in the second half, but it was too little too late. Despite going 6-for-10 from long range in the second, the Hawks did not have enough in the tank to finish the job. Brockport had an answer for each run, eventually going back up double-digits by the final horn.

The Golden Eagles will be on the road again Saturday for a 4pm tip-off against Oneonta in another SUNYAC matchup.
