Wiele Picks Up UAA Weekly Honor

Senior Matt Wiele of the University of Rochester men’s basketball team earned praise from the University Athletic Association this week, being named the Co-Men’s Basketball Player of the Week within the conference.
Wiele was terrific for Rochester during a 2-0 weekend at the UAA Challenge at Middlebury College. The senior guard averaged 21.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 70.6% (12-for-17) from the field. He also was terrific from the free throw line making 19-of-23 shots (82.6%).
Against Middlebury on Saturday, Wiele had 19 points and 8 rebounds in a 72-58 Rochester victory. The next day in a 82-60 win over Hamilton, the senior scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and 3 steals, making 7-of-9 from the floor and 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
Wiele, an All-UAA selection last season, earns his second career UAA Performer of the Week honor, as he was named in mid-January of the 2022-23 season.
