Women’s Basketball Erases 17 Point Deficit to Down RIT, 79-68

Brockport, NY- The Brockport women’s basketball team overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat RIT, 79-68, on Tuesday, December 3rd. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-1 on the season, extending their winning streak to five games.

Cam Tooley put together her best outing as a Golden Eagle, leading the charge with 18 points (5-9 FG), eight rebounds, and two assists.

RIT would control the contest from the get-go, shooting 60% from the floor to Brockport’s 31.5% in the first quarter. Excellent three-point shooting from Caroline Henderson (7-14 3pt, 23 points) helped give RIT an 11-point lead at halftime.

Scoring just 25 points in the first half, the Brockport offense would catch fire in the second half. Despite excellent three-point shooting in the third (5-8 3pt), RIT would outscore Brockport in the quarter 22 to 20 to take a 13-point lead into the fourth.

The Golden Eagles would completely dominate the final frame, putting together their best quarter of the season. Following a 4-0 Tiger run to begin the fourth, Brockport would rip off a 16-0 scoring run.

Cam Tooley would set the tone, scoring seven straight points to begin the run, with Kaileigh Huntscoring four straight herself.

Following an RIT three-pointer to go but up by four with 4 minutes left, the Golden Eagles offense would step up once again.

The Green and Gold would close out the contest with an 18-3 run, with Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and Shannon Blankenship fueling the offense. Brockport would outscore RIT 34-10 in the final quarter to escape with a 79-68 win.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste dropped 13 points, adding three steals, and three assists in a well-rounded effort.

Shannon Blankenship had it going from downtown, dropping 12 points on 4-7 shooting from deep, adding three steals and four rebounds.

Peyton Maneri rounded out the double-digit scorers for Brockport, scoring 13 points with three steals of her own.

Up Next: Brockport will head to the Mauro Panaggio Tournament in Florida to take on Plattsburgh on Monday, December 16th at 1 p.m.
