Men’s Soccer Beats RIT 1-0 For First Win Of 2024 Season

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Forward Reese Powersscored his first career goal, and goalkeeper Christian Burkhart earned his second consecutive shutout as the St. John Fisher men’s soccer team beat RIT 1-0 Wednesday night at Growney Stadium for its first win of the season.

Fisher Notables

  • Powers, a junior, scored his first career goal – and Fisher’s first of the season – seven minutes into the contest. Senior captain Trevor Heschke picked up his first assist of the season.
  • Burkhart, who earned his fourth career win in net, made six saves while logging his second clean sheet in a row.
  • Burkhart has made 13 saves over three games so far this season. The graduate student has allowed only one goal.
  • As he did in the draw against Hobart on Sunday, Burkhart made a key stop on RIT’s best scoring chance of the night in the second half.
  • The victory was Fisher’s first over RIT since its 1-0 win over the Tigers back in 2012.

From The Head Coach

On Christian Burkhart: “Another huge performance from him,” head coach Jack Burgasser said. “Back-to-back shutouts and back-to-back performances with six saves. Another game where he had a crucial stop in the second half to keep the shutout intact.”

On the team’s first goal of the season: “We’d been knocking on the door,” Burgasser said. “It’s hard to believe it has taken us three games to score because of the high-quality chances we’ve created. To finally get one felt good for the group and gave us some good momentum.”
