Women’s Hoops Wins Fourth Straight With 69-44 Triumph Over Hartwick
Four scorers had double figures.
ONEONTA, NY – Nazareth saw four scorers go in double figures on Saturday afternoon to help defeat Hartwick 69-44 and successfully complete the weekend sweep in the opening weekend of conference play. Katie MacLachlan led the Golden Flyers with 15 points, while Sarina McDowell and Molly Benetti each had 12, and Olivia Dobrovoskypoured in 11.
Nazareth, winners of four straight, is now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Empire 8 play. The Hawks drop to 1-7 and 0-2, respectively.
Nazareth jumped out to an early 16-3 lead following two free throws from McDowell six minutes into the game. MacLachlan drilled the Golden Flyers only 3-pointer of the contest to give Nazareth a 23-10 lead after the first quarter. She finished the game 7-for-13 from the floor (54 percent) to go along with seven rebounds.
The visitors outscored Hartwick 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 41-18 lead into halftime.
In the third, Hartwick was able to outscore the Golden Flyers and come within 12 points at 46-34 with 2:31 left on the clock. Nazareth, however, had the answer by scoring the last seven points, including five from Benetti. She had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dobrovosky had her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards.
McDowell was 5-for-6 from the floor. Kiara Anglin had a balanced game with eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Nazareth finished 25-for-53 (47.2 percent), while Hartwick was 17-for-60 (28.3 percent).
The Golden Flyers have a pair of home games next week, beginning on Wednesday when they host Geneseo at 6 p.m.
