Redhawks Prevail On Senior Day
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was Senior Day in more ways than one for the Roberts Wesleyan University men’s soccer team.
The Redhawks honored graduating seniors Nathan Ferguson, Robert Hinds, Joshua Jones, Luis Cataldi Milan, Tamas Nagy, Justin Robertson and Papouche Schmoyer in a pregame ceremony and then celebrated again as Ferguson and Nagy teamed up for the only goal of the match as the Redhawks defeated Shaw University 1-0 in a non-conference match on Saturday.
“It’s always nice to celebrate your seniors and it’s even more special when two of them combine on a goal,” Roberts coach Scott Reber said. “I think that all of the seniors had a chance to play some minutes in the field, so that is nice, too.”
Nagy slid a pass through to Ferguson and he converted at the 13:52 to give the Redhawks (5-5-4) the only goal that they needed as junior Caleb DaSilva made nine saves to record his third shutout of the season.
“I thought that the energy was good, the ball movement was good and Caleb had a great day and made some big saves for us,” Reber said. “We kind of grinded it out and got the three points, which is the most important thing.”
The Redhawks wrap up the regular season with an East Coast Conference match at Saint Thomas Aquinas College at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
